Submission of Resolutions

Resolutions are required to be submitted by 60 days before the Convention. The Resolutions Committee then works with the sponsors and forwards their report to delegates by 30 days before the Convention. Recognizing that at times world events may occur between the resolution deadline and the Convention, there is provision for a member of the Convention to ask the Convention to consider lengthening their agenda by adding a resolution on that subject, showing just cause for not having submitted it by the deadline. Two/thirds of the Convention must vote to add it, which would then become the last item on the agenda. Simply not submitting it on time should not generally be considered to be just cause. If there is some compelling resolution you wish to submit late, please contact the Governance Officer, Ann V. Talty, at (202) 537-6548 or atalty@edow.org to be walked through proper procedures.

The Bishop has asked that people consider seriously before submitting a resolution to Convention. There are plans for some exciting times together at Convention, and he would like us to spend as much of our time on these items as is possible rather than on legislation. If you do really need to submit a resolution, it must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30th, 2009.

Resolutions must be sponsored by a member of the Convention, and follow standard resolution format. Please submit to the Secretary of the Convention, Episcopal Church House, Mount Saint Alban, Washington, DC 20016. For questions, contact Ann V. Talty, Governance Officer, at (202) 537-6548 or atalty@edow.org.
